Ingredients

  • 2 pounds cubed beef (chuck or round)
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 small can tomato paste
  • 1 pint tomato juice
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons salt

How To Make beef barbecue

  • Step 1
    In a heavy sauce pan melt shortening. Add cubed beef and brown lightly. Add chopped onion and cook until the onion turns clear.
  • Step 2
    Add remaining ingredients and stir. Bring to a boil. Then reduce heat and cook slowly for two hours. When the meat is tender mash the chunks of meat with a potato masher until the mixture is of a thick consistency with no chunks of meat. If desired add a few drops of tobasco sauce.
  • Step 3
    Serve on bun.
