sweet and sour spareribs

My friend, Nay gave this recipe to me, some years ago. These are Asian Style, not a true Chinese recipe. It is really good, however! I cook these in my electric skillet. The recipe just fits but you can use a regular pan and cook on low-medium heat. (nonstick would be best) Note: You can ask your Butcher to cut each rib into 3 pieces - about 1 1/2 inches each - it would take him only a couple of minutes.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds spareribs, cut into 1 1/2 inch pieces
  • SAUCE
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • GARNISH
  • - tomatoes
  • - green peppers
  • - pineapple chunks
  • - sesame seeds, toasted

How To Make sweet and sour spareribs

  • Step 1
    STEP 1 - Brown spareribs in oil about 5 min and drain
  • Step 2
    STEP 2 - Mix together sauce and add to and over spareribs, stirring constantly until sauce thickens. Cover and simmer for 1/2 hour
  • Step 3
    STEP 3 - Garnish with tomatoes, green peppers, pineapple chunk, and the toasted sesame seeds
