Ingredients

  • 1 pound spinach, fresh
  • 1/2 pound potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 1 - onion
  • - salt and pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ginger powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric, ground
  • 1 teaspoon coriander
  • 1 cup yogurt, plain
  • 1 cup cheese

How To Make saag with cheese and potato

  • Step 1
    NOTE: you can avoid this step if you are using canned spinach. otherwise follow this step. wash and cut the spinach. then put this washed spinach into a large pot, cover it and let it cook in its own steam at a very low heat. it would take 10 min maximum. then put this cooked spinach in the blender and make its puree.
  • Step 2
    in a large pan (medium heat) take 2 tbsp oil, add the chopped onion and fry it until translucent. then add spinach puree and all the spices. season it with salt n pepper as per the taste. mix it well for about 5 minutes.
  • Step 3
    then add diced potatoes and yogurt. mix it well and cover it until the potatoes are cooked.
  • Step 4
    then add the cheese and let it simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Step 5
    finally cook the dish at the high heat for about 5 minutes with continuous stirring. you will notice the oil separating out the dish; its the sign that it is ready. serve hot.
