Matar Paneer (Cottage cheese with green peas) is a common dish in Northern part of India. This is a vegetarian side dish (either dry or curry) eaten with bread or
rice.

This recipe can be prepared in different ways. This is one of the ways my family likes. Also I used potatos in it as you can see as I love potatoes :).

How to Make Matar Paneer (Cottage cheese with green peas)

Step-by-Step

  1. Mix the spices cumin powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder and turmeric powder in about 3 TBSP water and keep ready.
  2. cut cottage cheese into cubes. In a skillet light fry the cubes in oil (it's optional to fry, can be used without frying also). Take those out in a separate container and add the seasoning in the same oil. Cook in low heat.
  3. Add the spice mixture in the oil as soon as the seeds starts to crackle and keep stirring. In another minute add the tomato paste and cook till the oil separates.
  4. Add green peas and salt. Cook for 5 minutes and add paneer (cottage cheese). Add little water (about 3-4 TBSP) for the masala paste to speread consistently. It will take another 5 minutes for the masala (paste) to be absorbed by peas and cottage cheese. Add cinnamon powder. Your dry matar paneer is ready to be served. If you like add some water and bring it to boil for the curry consistency.
