switchel: the original gatorade
My family used to drink this on the farm when I was a kid. It went by the gallons when the men would come in from the fields. I was given it again recently as I lost it a while back and my memory is not what it used to be so I was very glad to get it.

- 3-4 quarts water
- 8 ounces apple cider vinegar
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1/3 cup light molasses
- 2 ounces fresh grated ginger root or 1 1/2 tsp. dried
How To Make switchel: the original gatorade

Step 1Combine 1 quart water, the vinegar, sugar, molasses, and ginger root and simmer for 15 minutes uncovered. Remove from heat, cover, and allow to cool for 30 minutes.

Step 2Serve over Ice. Keeps well in the refrigerator. I used to serve this to my kids in the summer and when they were playing sports.
