A spicy sparkling lemonade. You can make this an adult beverage by substituting white Vinho Verde (a young semi-sparkling wine from Portugal) for the carbonated seltzer. CAUTION: Bird's eye chiles are very hot.

Ingredients

  • 1 - red bird's eye chili
  • 7 - meyer lemons
  • 1 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons fresh minced cilantro
  • 1 liter sparkling water, unflavored (well chilled)

How To Make portuguese lemonade

  • Step 1
    Place the chili in a 1 1/2 liter pitcher and crush with a pestle.
  • Step 2
    Slice one lemon and set aside. Juice remaining lemons and pour juice into the pitcher.
  • Step 3
    Warm the honey slightly in a microwave and add to the juice, stirring well.
  • Step 4
    Add the cilantro and lemon slices.
  • Step 5
    Just before serving, add sparkling water to pitcher and stir lightly. Serve over ice.
