Ancient cultures including the Celtic peoples viewed the goddess as having three manifestations -- Maiden, Mother and Crone -- which symbolized the three phases of a woman's life. Below are herbs and teas that honor The Mid or Mother phase. Be careful in their preparation to avoid using copper or aluminum untensils as they are highly reactive to the volatile oils contained in the herbs. Mother Herbs For general health, menstrual problems, fertility and childbirth try angelica, black cohosh, chaste berry, comfrey, dong quai, motherwort, mugwort (powerful -- use sparingly), pau d'arco, raspberry, sassafrass bark or yarrow.
