We make this every Christmas, and it's a favorite with friends and family. Sometimes I vary the juices - you can use cranberry instead of cherry, or cranapple juice instead of apple cider.

Ingredients

  • 2 quarts apple cider
  • 1 quart cherry cider or juice
  • 2 - juice oranges
  • 4 - cinnamon sticks
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves

How To Make red christmas punch (hot mulled cider)

  • Step 1
Mix together the ciders/juices in a large kettle over medium heat.
  • Step 2
Peel the zest off one orange in large strips. Place zest, cinnamon sticks, and cloves in a double square of cheesecloth, and tie tightly. Place spice bag into the cider mixture.
  • Here is one brand of cherry cider I have used in this punch.
    Step 3
Heat the cider to serving temperature - like hot coffee or tea (do not boil). Barely simmer the punch for about 15 minutes.
  • Step 4
Juice the orange and add the juice to the cider. Halve and slice the remaining orange and float the slices on top of the hot punch. Serve hot with an orange slice and cinnamon stick if desired.
