This is the classic recipe. The one off the Hershey's can. It was there when I was a little girl sixty years ago, and it's still there. I remember my mother making it for me on cold winter mornings or after playing outside on a brisk autumn afternoon. The "dash of salt" is important. It enhances flavor of the chocolate.

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup hershey's cocoa
- 1/3 cup hot water
- 4 cups milk
- 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- dash salt

Step 1Mix sugar, cocoa and salt in saucepan; stir in water.

Step 2Cook and stir over medium heat until mixture boils. Boil and stir 2 minutes.

Step 3Stir in milk and heat. DO NOT BOIL.

Step 4Remove from heat; add vanilla.

Step 5This isn't on the can, but we all know this recipe benefits from a few marshmallows or some whipped cream on top!
