ruby red wine punch

My parents served a similar punch at their 25th wedding anniversary party. They used my father's homemade Sparkling Burgundy. This is very good, so if you have guests under 21 or who don't imbibe, be sure to make some with one of the dealcoholized red wines. Sutter Home Fre has some good ones.

Ingredients For ruby red wine punch

  • 3/4 c
    spring water
  • 3/4 c
    sugar
  • 6
    inches stick cinnamon
  • 1 tsp
    whole cloves
  • 1 dash
    sea salt
  • 3 c
    burgundy wine, chilled (or any sweet red wine)
  • 3 c
    cranberry-apple juice, chilled
  • mint leaves or lemon peel twists

How To Make ruby red wine punch

    In saucepan, combine water, sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and salt; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer 10 minutes. Strain out spices and chill liquid, about 2 hours.

    Combine chilled mixture with wine and cranberry-apple juice in punch bowl. Garnish with mint leaves or lemon peel twists if desired.
