hearty mint julep
I had these at a Kentucky Derby party. They pack a punch!! There is a 12 hour resting time for flavors to blend.....you need to stir occasionally but it is basically sitting time.

Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup fresh mint leaves, packed
- 2 cups bourbon
- - fresh mint sprigs, to garnish
- - crushed ice
How To Make hearty mint julep

Step 1Combine sugar, water, and mint leaves in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, 5 minutes or until the sugar dissolves.

Step 2Remove from the heat. Let stand 12 hours at room temperature, stirring occasionally.

Step 3Pour the liquid through a wire-mesh strainer into a pitcher, discarding the mint leaves. Stir in the bourbon and chill. Serve over crushed ice. Garnish, if desired, with mint sprigs.
