I had these at a Kentucky Derby party. They pack a punch!! There is a 12 hour resting time for flavors to blend.....you need to stir occasionally but it is basically sitting time.

How to Make Hearty Mint Julep


  1. Combine sugar, water, and mint leaves in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, 5 minutes or until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Remove from the heat. Let stand 12 hours at room temperature, stirring occasionally.
  3. Pour the liquid through a wire-mesh strainer into a pitcher, discarding the mint leaves. Stir in the bourbon and chill. Serve over crushed ice. Garnish, if desired, with mint sprigs.
