This is one of my favorite recipes for a classic whiskey sour. It comes from an old book of cocktails that my ex-MIL picked up on one of her many travels. She gave it to me years after the divorce… we stayed on friendly terms. It is tart, and sassy, and best paired with a stunning sunset. So, you ready… Let’s get into the kitchen.

How To Make bottoms up essentials: classic whiskey sour

  • Step 1
    PREP/PREPARE
  • Step 2
What will you need? A cocktail shaker would be a good thing.
  • Step 3
What to serve with it? This is a great drink, so it does not really need anything to go with it. However, a few bar snacks would not be amiss.
  • Step 4
How to store it? You do not store it… you drink it.
  • Step 5
Raw egg whites Raw eggs can pose a problem for pregnant women and for those with immune problems. You can buy pasteurized eggs that still look raw but have been heated up enough to kill any of the bad bugs. Or, you can make your own… here is a recipe I have to do just that. https://www.justapinch.com/recipes/side/other-side-dish/sous-vide-essentials-pasteurized-eggs.html
  • Step 6
The Book This is the book the recipe came from. The front and back are made of wood, and the image on the front was hand painted. I am not sure how old it is; however, it is at least 60 – 70 years old. It is all about cocktails, how to make them, with tips/tricks. Every time I open it, I think of the sweet southern lady that gave it to me.
  • Step 7
Gather your ingredients (mise en place).
  • Step 8
Add the bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup, and egg whites to a cocktail shaker, and shake until all the ingredients are mixed, and slightly foamy, about 30 seconds.
  • Step 9
Add a bunch of ice, and shake, shake, shake for another 15 – 20 seconds.
  • Step 10
Strain into a nice glass with ice or serve neat.
  • Step 11
    PLATE/PRESENT
  • So Yummy
    Step 12

  • Stud Muffin

Keep the faith, and keep cooking.
