Ingredients

    cups whole milk
  • 1
    cup half n half cream
  • 8
    tbsp instant coffee
  • 2
    tsp grated orange rind
  • 5
    small eggs
  • 1/2
    cup white sugar
  • 1 1/2
    tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1
    tsp pure almond extract
  • 1/2
    tsp fine sea salt
  • 1/16
    tsp freshly ground nutmeg
  • ·
    deluce de leche (garnish)
  • ·
    toasted coconut (garnish)

How to Make Rich Coffee Custard

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

    In a large pot add milk and cream. Scald the milk then add the instant coffee and orange rind.

    Stir well and set aside to cool for 10 minutes.
  2. On low speed, gently beat 4 eggs and 1 egg yolk, add the white sugar; then slowly add in the coffee mixture, vanilla, almond extracts and salt. Make sure to blend it well.
  3. Pour the pudding into your custard cups and sprinkle the nutmeg on top.
  4. Put your filled custard cups in a shallow pan that is filled with cold water. (about 3/4 inch from the top of your cups)

    Place the pan in the preheated oven for an hour.

    Remove from oven and pan, cool then chill until ready to use.
  5. When ready to serve, turn upside down on serving plate and garnish with a tablespoon swirl of Dulce de Leche and sprinkle toasted coconut on top.
