Just a note, this is not typical bread pudding. It is more of a custard with bread on top. I grew up with this bread pudding, and think it is the best.

Ingredients

  • 1 quart milk
  • 1 - scant cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • - nutmeg to taste
  • 4 - eggs
  • - bread slices or cinnamon buns
  • - cinnamon sugar
  • - butter to spread

How To Make mom's bread pudding

  • Step 1
    Scald milk. Mix eggs and add sugar, vanilla and nutmeg. Pour a little milk into eggs and mix. Pour egg, milk combination into remaining milk. Pour all into glass baking dish.
  • Step 2
    Add buttered bread slices, and sprinkle with sugar and nutmeg.
  • Step 3
    Bake 1 hr. to 1 hr & 20 min. in pan of water at 325 degrees. Test with a clean cold knife blade.
