Growing up in Indiana everyone had their own version of sugar cream pie. My favorite is still from Mrs. Wicks. But my version is very good too! When I moved to New York I was surprised that no one knew what a sugar cream pie was!

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups half and half
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/3 cup corn starch
  • 1 stick salted butter, cut into chunks
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh grated nutmeg
  • 1 - prebaked pie crust

How To Make sugar cream pie

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 375°F. In a sauce pot whisk together the sugar and corn starch. Whisk in the half and half.
  • Step 2
    Cook over medium heat whisking nonstop until it is bubbling and thickened. Remove from heat.
  • Step 3
    Whisk in butter until melted and fully mixed in. Then stir in vanilla.
  • Step 4
    Pour in to prebaked pie crust. Sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg evenly over top.
  • Step 5
    Bake in a preheated oven of 375° for 20 minutes. Remove from oven and cool to room temperature. Cover and place in fridge overnight. Enjoy!
