Ingredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 4 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 3 large mcintosh apples, peeled, cored and sliced
- 2 large gala apples, peeled, cored and sliced
- 2 8-inch deep dish pie crusts
How To Make mema rose's apple pie
-
Step 1Melt the butter in a large saucepan. Continue to cook the butter until it is browned, a dark golden color and smells nutty, about 2 to 3 minutes, stirring often.
-
Step 2Stir in cornstarch to form a paste. Stir in the water.
-
Step 3Add the granulated sugar, brown sugar, nutmeg, and cinnamon, and bring to a low boil.
-
Step 4Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
-
Step 5Add the apples to the sugar mixture in the saucepan and cook on low heat for 5 minutes.
-
Step 6Place the bottom crust in your pan. Par-bake for 4 minutes. Pour apple filling into crust. Cover with second pie crust. Crimp edges, and cut slits in top to vent. (I sprinkle a little sugar on top.)
-
Step 7Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour, until apples are soft.
