This Texas recipe has been around my family for 40 plus years. It has also been a star at many gatherings. I have never tasted anything better and it is so simple and fast that I made the crust and filling in less than 15 minutes! I used Tara Pacheco's recipe for No Roll Pie Crust this time and loved it! So this was a match made in heaven lol!

Ingredients

  • - deep dish pie crust for 9 in. pie
  • 3 cups mashed cooked sweet potatoes
  • 2 - well beaten eggs
  • 3/4to1 cup whole milk or half and half
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup melted butter

How To Make east texas sweetie pie

  • Step 1
    Combine all ingredients and gradually add milk until you have a smooth, but not thin, filling.
  • Step 2
    Pour filling into crust and bake for 10 min. at 425 degrees. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake an additional 50 to 60 min till filling is firm.
  • Step 3
    Cool before cutting.
