chocolate shoo-fly pie
I have a funny story about this recipe. I won a blue ribbon at a county fair for this pie. When I took my husband that night to the fair to show him, the pie was missing from the table! They left the ribbon for me though :-)

Ingredients
- 1 - unbaked 9 inch pie shell
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 1/3 cups boiling water
- 1 1/2 cups chocolate syrup
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/3 cups flour
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/3 cup butter or margarine
How To Make chocolate shoo-fly pie

Step 1Dissolve 1/4 teaspoon baking soda in boiling water. Stir in chocolate syrup. Set aside. Combine flour, sugar, 1/4 teaspoon baking soda and salt. Cut in butter or margarine with pastry blender to form coarse crumbs.

Step 2Set aside 1 cup each of chocolate syrup mixture and crumbs.

Step 3Gently combine remaining chocolate mixture and crumbs, stirring just until crumbs are moistened (mixture will be lumpy).

Step 4Pour reserved cup of chocolate mixture into unbaked pastry shell and spread chocolate-crumb mixture evenly over liquid in shell. Top with remaining cup crumbs.

Step 5Bake at 375 degrees for 60 minutes or until set.
