My husband loves this pie, but says the best part is the homemade crust.

Ingredients

  • 6 medium apples, golden delicious or granny smith, sliced
  • 3/4 cup whitesugar
  • 1/2 cup browm sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • PIE CRUST FOR DOUBLE CRUST PIE
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 cups butter flavor shortening
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 4 tablespoons ice cold water

How To Make award winning apple pie

  • Step 1
    Put apples in a large bowl. Combine remaining ingredients and pour over apples. Toss gently to coat well. Put in a 9" pie crust, dot with butter, adjust top crust and bake at 450 for 15 minutes and then 350 for 45 minutes.
  • Step 2
    For pie crust; Mix together flour, baking powder and salt in a medium bowl. Cut in shortening. Add vinegar and egg, then add water. Mix to form a dough ball, separate into two balls, roll out on floured surface.
