apple butter pie
Very old Appalachian pie recipe from the days then everybody made apple butter and sugar was scarce. It's very simple to make, not a lot of ingredients, because most of the sweetener and spices are already in your apple butter. This would be a great pie for your kids to bake as it would teach them about history and baking. Nice dark apple butter and sorghum or molasses give it a slight bit of sweetness and body. This is a not too sweet, rich delicious pie that will bring you back to the days of your forefathers. I do hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
Blue Ribbon Recipe
This apple butter pie has the smooth texture of a pumpkin pie but is filled with the wonderful old-fashioned flavors of apple, spice, and molasses. It's reminiscent of the flavors in gingerbread. Definitely cut a slice of this apple butter pie while warm. Paired with cool whipped cream, it's a delicious bite.
