I've been making this pie for longer than I can remember. It's a family favorite and always gets raves wherever I take it. When a delicious apple pie is needed, I refuse to use any other recipe!

Ingredients
- 5 cups fresh apples, peeled and sliced (about 3 large apples)
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 - unbaked pie shell
- TOPPING:
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 cup cold butter
How To Make american apple pie

Step 1Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Lightly press pie crust into a 9 inch pie plate.

Step 2In a bowl, combine apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg; spoon into pie plate.

Step 3In a separate bowl, combine sugar and flour; cut in cold butter with a fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle crumbs over pie.

Step 4Bake @ 400 degrees F for 10 minutes, then reduce heat to 375 degree F and bake for an additional 40-45 minutes or until topping is browned and apples are tender. If necessary, cover edges of crust with foil to prevent burning. Cool completely before cutting
