I've been making this pie for longer than I can remember. It's a family favorite and always gets raves wherever I take it. When a delicious apple pie is needed, I refuse to use any other recipe!

Ingredients

  • 5 cups fresh apples, peeled and sliced (about 3 large apples)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 - unbaked pie shell
  • TOPPING:
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup cold butter

How To Make american apple pie

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Lightly press pie crust into a 9 inch pie plate.
  • Step 2
    In a bowl, combine apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg; spoon into pie plate.
  • Step 3
    In a separate bowl, combine sugar and flour; cut in cold butter with a fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle crumbs over pie.
  • Step 4
    Bake @ 400 degrees F for 10 minutes, then reduce heat to 375 degree F and bake for an additional 40-45 minutes or until topping is browned and apples are tender. If necessary, cover edges of crust with foil to prevent burning. Cool completely before cutting
