A church potluck and a Christmas party were coming up - and we needed to bring a dessert to the party. We were busy to the inevitable suggestions was lemon bars. "But, I want something red, you know, for Christmas. . . I know, let's turn the lemon into strawberry!" And so, this recipe was developed, on the fly. It turned out visually AND tastefully beautiful.

Ingredients For strawberry dream bars

  • 1 pkg
    strawberry cake mix
  • 1/2 c
    butter, softened
  • 1 lg
    egg
  • 14 oz
    sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 c
    strawberry fruit spread
  • red food coloring

How To Make strawberry dream bars

  • 1
    Preheat oven to 350*F. Stir together cake mix, butter, and egg. Spread mixture evenly into bottom of a 13" x 9" pan.

    Blend together sweetened condensed milk, strawberry fruit spread, and food coloring (whatever is necessary to achieve the color you want). Pour mixture over top of cake mix mixture.

    Bake for 23 - 27 minutes. Cool completely. Cut into 1-½" x 3-¼" bars.
