A variation of the traditional English Christmas punch. Cook time is refrigeration time.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups apple cider, pasteurized
  • 1 cup cranberry juice cocktail
  • 10 - whole cloves
  • 10 - allspice berries, whole
  • 2 sticks cinnamon (3-inches each)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 - orange, with rind
  • 4 tablespoons (4 envelopes) unflavored gelatin powder
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 3/4 cup dark rum
  • 2 slices orange, studded with 4 cloves each, for garnish

How To Make spiced wasail gelatin

  • Step 1
    In a saucepan, bring the apple cider, cranberry juice, cloves, allspice, cinnamon, sugar and orange to a boil over high heat. Cover, decrease heat tto low and simmer for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally. Strain out the spices and squeeze the liquid from the orange half into the juice and discard orange.
  • Step 2
    Meanwhile, in a bowl, sprinkle gelatin over cold water and let sit 2 minutes. Add the juice mixture and stir until gelatin is dissolved.
  • Step 3
    Stir in the rum. Refrigerate 90 minutes. Spoon into a 7-cup mold. Refrigerate until firm, about 4 hours.
  • Step 4
    Unmold and garnish with the orange slices. Serve.
