I usually call these ginger bars. My grandma, who adores ginger loves these bars.

Ingredients

  • BAR:
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 - egg
  • 2 cups all-purposed flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1-2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup water
  • GLAZE:
  • 1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons milk

How To Make frosted cream

  • Step 1
    In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Step 2
    Beat in molasses and egg.
  • Step 3
    Combine the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture alternately with water, mixing well after each addition.
  • Step 4
    Pour into a greased 13"x9" baking pan. Bake at 400* for 13-15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool completely on wire rack.
  • Step 5
    In a small bowl, combine the confectioners' sugar, vanilla, and enough milk to achieve desired consistency. Spread over cooled bars.
