This is the gang that I would love to share this with. I would hesitate to share this with any one but this group of cooks. My Dad when I made this said it was just like his mom made. You will need pint canning jars and some kind of large pot to do a water bath on these.

Ingredients For dad's mincemeat

  • 5 1/2 lb
    (1/2 peck) green tomatoes
  • 1 lb
    chopped tart apples
  • 1/2 c
    citron, ground
  • 1/2 c
    orange juice
  • 1/2 c
    vinegar
  • 1/2 c
    ground suet ask the butcher for this
  • 2 1/2 c
    brown sugar
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    allspice
  • 1 tsp
    whole cloves, cracked
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1 lb
    dark seedless raisins

How To Make dad's mincemeat

    Wash tomatoes, cut into chunks, chop fine.

    Put all other ingredients in pot except raisins. Put spices in a bag.

    Cook on low heat for 1 hour, stirring frequently, add raisins, cook until thick.

    Remove spice bag, fill jars, and put into hot water bath for 25 minutes.
