This is the perfect frosting for sugar cookies, cupcakes, or cakes.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups vegetable shortening
  • 2 pounds powdered sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup icing base
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon meringue powder
  • 1/2 cup water

How To Make butter cream frosting

  • Step 1
    Place all ingredients in a large bowl
  • Step 2
    Beat with mixer on medium speed for 5 minutes
  • Step 3
    Scrape sides of bowl after 3 minutes then continue mixing
  • Step 4
    Separate and add food coloring to obtain desired colors
  • Step 5
    May store in refrigerator for up to one week
