baklava roll-ups
These are nice to have around over the Holidays, they last a long time..they aren't hard to make either. I can't remember where I found this recipe, but I am so glad I did. I made it a tradition to make these every Christmas, and my kids love to help.

Ingredients
- SYRUP
- 1 1/4 cups sugar
- 3/4 cup water
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 3 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon honey
- - pinch of ground cloves
- FILLING
- 1 pound ground walnuts - a food processor works well for this
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 - egg whites
- PHYLLO
- 1 pound phyllo dough
- 1 cup melted butter
- - powdered sugar, for dusting
How To Make baklava roll-ups
-
Step 1Simmer all syrup ingredients in a small saucepan for 15 minutes and cool. Beat egg whites till they have soft peaks and mix in filling ingredients and half of the prepared syrup.
-
Step 2Cut phyllo sheets in half. Brush butter between each layer of dough. Take a stack of 8 layers of dough and spread filling on it, then roll up. Slice the roll to desired lengths and make a few tiny slits on the tops of the rolls
-
Step 3Brush them with remaining butter and bake at 350F for 25 minutes. I bake these on a jelly roll sheet pan. Pour the rest of the syrup over the rolls once they are out of the oven. After they cool, dust with powder sugar.
