Baklava Roll-ups

Cassie *

These are nice to have around over the Holidays, they last a long time..they aren't hard to make either.

I can't remember where I found this recipe, but I am so glad I did. I made it a tradition to make these every Christmas, and my kids love to help.

  • 1 Tbsp
    lemon juice
  • 3 tsp
  • 1 Tbsp
  • ·
    pinch of ground cloves

  • 1 lb
ground walnuts - a food processor works well for this
  • 1/4 tsp
    ground cloves
  • 1 tsp
  • 2
    egg whites

  • 1 lb
    phyllo dough
  • 1 c
    melted butter
  • ·
    powdered sugar, for dusting

How to Make Baklava Roll-ups

  1. Simmer all syrup ingredients in a small saucepan for 15 minutes and cool.

Beat egg whites till they have soft peaks and mix in filling ingredients and half of the prepared syrup.
  2. Cut phyllo sheets in half.

Brush butter between each layer of dough.

Take a stack of 8 layers of dough and spread filling on it, then roll up.

Slice the roll to desired lengths and make a few tiny slits on the tops of the rolls
  3. Brush them with remaining butter and bake at 350F for 25 minutes. I bake these on a jelly roll sheet pan.

Pour the rest of the syrup over the rolls once they are out of the oven.

After they cool, dust with powder sugar.
