My cousin is pregnant with her second kid and all that she likes has to do with Almonds!! (what better way to celebrate, right??) Hence I learned this traditional recipe from my mom (an expert at making halwas - the ooey gooey sinful dessert series of India) and converted it to the american standards!! Hail Halwa and Let's rejoice together... I am shipping it to her today...it's a complete surprise...don't let her know!! :) :)

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups almonds, blanched
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon saffron

How To Make badam halwa

  • Step 1
    Melt Butter in a microwave safe bowl and add saffron to it.
  • Step 2
    Meanwhile, blend together blanched almonds, milk, condensed milk and sugar and make a fine paste.
  • Step 3
    Stir in the almond paste with the infused butter and repeat for 20 min: 1. Microwave the mixture on high for 2 min 2. remove from the microwave and stir the mixture couple of times (make sure it's thickening) 3. Repeat from 1
  • Step 4
    Once the halwa has thickened and reached a good dough-like consistency, set aside for 5 min and serve hot! For best results, serve hot with (Home made) Vanilla Ice cream and caramel sauce!!
  • Step 5
    BLANCHING ALMONDS: 1. To a microwave safe bowl, add 2 c of almonds and 4 c of water and microwave on high for 4-5 min depending on your machine. 2. Once done, You can easily remove the skin of the almonds!!
