apple spice squares

This is an oldie from my Mother-In-Law's recipe box. She used to make this quite often many years ago. I love anything with apple, so I'm so happy she shared this with me!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups chopped apples (I like Mcintosh)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 - egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 1/4 cups sifted flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup nuts, chopped (I like walnuts)

How To Make apple spice squares

  • Step 1
    Peel, core, and chop apples. Add sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add egg and mix well.
  • Ingredients  mixed together
    Step 2
    Add butter, flour, and baking powder. Mix until absorbed.
  • Brown sugar and nuts sprinkled on top.
    Step 3
    Pour into an 8 x 8 pan. Mix brown sugar and nuts together, then sprinkle on top. Bake at 375 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes.
  • Just out of the oven,  cooling on a rack.
    Step 4
    Cool and cut into squares.
