This recipe reminds me of family get togethers in the Spring and Summer. We always made some type of homemade ice cream. I found this recipe on a card when going through my mother's things after she passed away. Freezing time is not included in prep and cook time.

Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 4 cups whipping cream
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
How To Make caramel ice cream

Step 1Place 1 cup sugar in a large heavy saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon until the sugar melts and turns golden.

Step 2Reduce the heat to low; gradually add the whipping cream and milk. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until smooth.

Step 3Combine the 1//2 cup sugar and flour; stir well. Add to the caramelized sugar mixture; cook over low heat, stirring constantly, for 10 minutes or until the mixture is thickened. Stir in the vanilla.

Step 4Pour the mixture into the freezer container of a 2 quart hand-turned or electric freezer. Freeze according to the manufacturer's instructions. Pack the freezer with additional ice and salt, and let stand 1 hour before serving.
