My husband loves granola, so I set out to make some since its so expensive to buy. I took the best from several recipes. He eats his on yogurt every morning for breakfast.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 c
    oats, old fashioned
  • 2/3 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1/2 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed, light
  • 1/3 c
    almonds, sliced
  • 2 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp
    nutmeg
  • 1/2 c
    butter (1 stick)
  • 1/2 c
    honey
  • 1/3 c
    peanut butter, optional
  • 1 tsp
    pure vanilla extract

How to Make Best homemade granola

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 250 degrees
  2. Spray a 15X10 baking sheet (jelly roll pan) with nonstick cooking spray
  3. In a large bowl combine all dry ingredients, oats, flour, brown sugar, almond slices, cinnamon, and nutmeg
  4. In a microwave safe bowl combine wet ingredients, honey, butter, peanut butter (if using) and microwave until butter is melted. Stir and then add vanilla.
  5. Pour melted mixture over oat mixture, stir well
  6. Spread into your baking dish and make sure it is spread out well.
  7. Bake for 70-75 minutes, stir or flip half way through. Towards the end it will smell a little too done but mine has always been fine.
  8. When its finished it will still be a little soft, stir and break it up a couple times as its cooling and it will crisp up. I store mine in a gallon size Ziploc bag but any air tight container will work.
    You can add dried fruit at this point as you are mixing it up!
