spiced apple rings

Found this recipe at cooks.com (http://cooks.com/4z7a84k0). Unfortunately, it didn't give a measurement for the apples, nor even a number of jars to use for canning. However, my main interest in it was for the spice ratios it uses, so we can extrapolate from other recipes the quantity of apples.

8 cwater

4 tspred or green food coloring

4 csugar

1 tspred hot candy

1 tspcinnamon

1 tspwhole cloves

How To Make spiced apple rings

1Slice and core hard apples and pack in sterilized jars.

2Make a syrup of 8 cups water, 4 teaspoons red or green food coloring, 4 cups sugar, 1 package red hot candy. Put 1 stick of cinnamon, 1 teaspoon whole cloves, 1 teaspoon allspice, 1 teaspoon mace in cloth bag. Place in syrup and bring to a boil.

3Pour syrup over hot jars of apple rings.

4Process in hot water bath: pints - 25 minutes; quarts - 30 minutes.
