From my mother's recipe file. A perfect autumn dessert to have after the football game, or even as an alternative to the Thanksgiving pumpkin pie.

Ingredients

tart unpared apples, diced
1 c
sugar
1/2 c
all purpose flour
2 tsp
baking powder
1
egg
1 Tbsp
butter, melted
1 tsp
vanilla
1/2 c
coarsely chopped walnuts
1/2 c
pitted dates, cut up

How to Make HARVEST TORTE

Step-by-Step

  • 1In a large bowl, combine all ingredients. Stir until thoroughly mixed; do NOT beat.
  • 2Turn into greased 8x8x2" pan. Bake in 400-degree oven for 40 minutes, or until apples are tender (test with fork).
  • 3Cool slightly. Cut into squares. Serve warm or cold with whipped cream, cream, or vanilla ice cream.
