From my mother's recipe file. A perfect autumn dessert to have after the football game, or even as an alternative to the Thanksgiving pumpkin pie.

Ingredients
- 4 cups tart unpared apples, diced
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup all purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 - egg
- 1 tablespoon butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
- 1/2 cup pitted dates, cut up
How To Make harvest torte

Step 1In a large bowl, combine all ingredients. Stir until thoroughly mixed; do NOT beat.

Step 2Turn into greased 8x8x2" pan. Bake in 400-degree oven for 40 minutes, or until apples are tender (test with fork).

Step 3Cool slightly. Cut into squares. Serve warm or cold with whipped cream, cream, or vanilla ice cream.
