From my mother's recipe file. A perfect autumn dessert to have after the football game, or even as an alternative to the Thanksgiving pumpkin pie.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups tart unpared apples, diced
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 - egg
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup pitted dates, cut up

How To Make harvest torte

  • Step 1
    In a large bowl, combine all ingredients. Stir until thoroughly mixed; do NOT beat.
  • Step 2
    Turn into greased 8x8x2" pan. Bake in 400-degree oven for 40 minutes, or until apples are tender (test with fork).
  • Step 3
    Cool slightly. Cut into squares. Serve warm or cold with whipped cream, cream, or vanilla ice cream.
