gram's apple pudding cake

Gram made this long ago and we always enjoyed it when she served it.Now we continue making it and others always enjoy it too.It's a little different than a regular cake and yet,not a pudding either.It was a name we think she made up,because you do "pour the batter" in the process here. But so yum is the flavor! Enjoy it!

Ingredients

  • 6-8 - good size cooking apples,peeled and sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar,divided
  • 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon,divided
  • 1/2 cup butter or margerine
  • 1 - whole egg
  • 1 1/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 -2/3 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla flavoring
  • OPTIONAL SAUCE
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg to taste
  • - enough warm water to make a thin sauce

How To Make gram's apple pudding cake

  • Step 1
    Combine the apples in a bowl with a half of a cup of sugar mixed with 1/2 tsp cinnamon.Place is a square 8-9in baking dish.
  • Step 2
    Cream butter and remaining 1 cup of sugar.Add egg,beat till light.
  • Step 3
    Alternately add dry ingredients to the creamed mixture:flour,baking powder,salt,nutmeg,and remaining 1/4 tsp of cinnamon.
  • Step 4
    Add vanilla to the milk and add it to the creamed batter above,mixing well.Then: "pour it" evenly all over the apples in your baking pan!
  • Step 5
    Bake at 350 for one hour or until apples are bubbly and tender.The top puffs up a bit.Yum served warm,in small bowls.
  • Step 6
    For Optional Sauce: Melt butter in sauce pan,combine flour,sugar and nutmeg.Stir into butter.Blend and then add enough water to make a thin sauce,stirring and heating it thru. Spoon this over individual servings of the pudding cake when it's served. Or you can just serve it with ice cream,or even plain! All are very good!
