I made some last night and thought I would share with you my own recipe :)
Most date square recipes out there suggest to put sugar in with the dates, but I skip this step since dates are sweet enough!!
These were also a big hit when I had my catering service and was Piccolo Grande's best seller :)

    pitted and chopped dates
  • 1 1/2 c
    water or more as needed

    rolled oats, quick-cooking
  • 1 1/4 c

  • 1 c
    butter or margarine

How to Make Date Squares

Step-by-Step

  1. 1. Place rack in center of oven. Preheat oven to 350F. Line a square baking dish 20 cm (8 inches) with parchment paper or just grease your dish with butter.
  2. 2. Filling

In a saucepan, boil the dates and water and simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon until the dates are pureed. Let cool.
  3. 3. Crumble mix

In a bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar and baking soda. Add butter and mix well.

Spread half of the crisp in the pan and press firmly. Spread the date mixture. Cover with remaining crisp and press lightly. Bake about 35 minutes or until crisp is golden brown. Cool on a wire rack, remove from pan and cut into 16 squares.
