baked cinnamon apple chips

I have a dehydrator but much prefer Nana's method. These are put in a boiling syrup prior to baking to add extra sweet goodness. Then I add the cinnamon and sugar and Wow! Much better than store bought!

Ingredients

  • - 2 large apples unpeeled
  • - 1 cup water
  • - 1 cup sugar
  • - cinnamon and sugar mix

How To Make baked cinnamon apple chips

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 225
  • Step 2
    Place a wire cooling rack on a sheet of foil and coat lightly with cooking spray
  • Step 3
    Combine water and sugar in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Stir to make sure sugar dissolves. Boil hard for five minutes until it is the consiostancy of a light syrup.
  • Step 4
    Core your apples and slice them into strips or rings. (thicker strips with bake chewy thinner strips will bake up crisp)
  • Step 5
    Place chips in a large bowl and pour sugar syrup over them while it is still hot and boiling.
  • Step 6
    Toss with tongs making sure apples are coated with syrup well.
  • Step 7
    Remove apples from syrup one slice at qa time and put on cooling rack, do not over lap them.
  • Step 8
    Bring up sides of foil and pinch to edges of rack.
  • Step 9
    Sprinkle cinnamon sugar lightly over the tops of the apple chips.
  • Step 10
    Bake for 2 1/2 hours and then loosen chips but leave on rack to cool.
  • Step 11
    Chips will crisp up as they cool
  • Step 12
    Dust with additional cinnamon if desired and enjoy
