yield 4-6 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 7-10 - apples
  • 1 cup 100% apple juice (i used trader joes 100% mcintosh apple juice)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar or more to your taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

How To Make apple sauce

  • Step 1
The best apples for applesauce are Gala, Fuji, Jonathan, Golden Delicious, Jonalicious or Jonagold. You can use any of these types or mix them up for a tasty blend of flavors. I used 2 fuji, 2 gala, 4 granny smith and 2 delicious. Peel and core apples. Slice or chop apples. You can keep the apples in water from turning brown while preparing.
  • Step 2
In a large pot place the apples and apple juice. Cover and cook over medium heat for about 25 or more minutes.
  • Step 3
Once apples are tender, start mashing them in the pot wit a potato masher. Continue to cook and mash until the consistency is right like sauce.
  • Step 4
Add sugar and cinnamon and optional drop or two of vanilla. Continue to cook and mash about 15 minutes and lower heat. Keep lid on pot and simmer a little longer.
  • Step 5
Taste for sweetness, you don't need a lot of sugar because the apples are sweet enough. Omit the sugar if you have health concerns. If from adding too much sugar, add drop or two of lemon juice and stir. If you like more spice, feel free to add nutmeg or other spices to your liking, even raisins are good in this recipe.
  • Step 6
Store your applesauce in glass mason jars or any glass jar in the refrigerator.
