This is an old fashioned recipe that my great grandmother used to mae.

Ingredients

  • 4 medium cooking apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon cold water
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

How To Make apple-gingerbread cobbler

  • Step 1
    Combine the first 5 ingredients in a medium saucepan; stir well. Bring to a boil; cover, reduce heat, and simmer 10 minutes or until the apple is tender.
  • Step 2
    Combine the cornstarch and 1 tablespoon water; add to the apple mixture, stirring well. Pour into a lightly greased 2-quart baking dish.
  • Step 3
    Combine the buttermilk, 1/4 cup sugar, molasses, oil, and egg in a small mixing bowl; beat at medium speed of an electric mixer until smooth.
  • Step 4
    Combine the flour and the remaining ingredients; stir well. Add to the buttermilk mixture, beating until blended. Pour the batter over the apple mixture.
  • Step 5
    Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes or until lightly browned. Serve warm.
