I love warm rice pudding on a cool evening! You can add raisins to this if you'd like; just stir in 1/4 cup of raisins before pouring into dessert bowls.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cold, cooked rice
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons corn starch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • - 2 drops yellow food coloring (optional)
  • - dollop of whip cream (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)

How To Make old fashioned rice pudding

  • Step 1
    Combine rice, sugar, butter, salt, cornstarch, vanilla extract, milk, food color and nutmeg into 1-quart sauce pan. Stir over medium heat until thick and bubbly.
  • Step 2
    Let cool slightly; pour into dessert cups and allow to cool completely.
  • Step 3
    Garnish with a dollop of whip cream and sprinkle with a bit of cinnamon.
  • Step 4
    Makes 6 servings.
