Old Fashioned Rice Pudding

I love warm rice pudding on a cool evening! You can add raisins to this if you'd like; just stir in 1/4 cup of raisins before pouring into dessert bowls.

  • 1 c
    cold, cooked rice
  • 1 c
  • 2 Tbsp
    corn starch
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 1/4 tsp
    ground nutmeg
  • 2 c
  • 1 Tbsp
  • 1/2 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • ·
    2 drops yellow food coloring (optional)
  • ·
    dollop of whip cream (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp
    ground cinnamon (optional)

How to Make Old Fashioned Rice Pudding


  1. Combine rice, sugar, butter, salt, cornstarch, vanilla extract, milk, food color and nutmeg into 1-quart sauce pan. Stir over medium heat until thick and bubbly.
  2. Let cool slightly; pour into dessert cups and allow to cool completely.
  3. Garnish with a dollop of whip cream and sprinkle with a bit of cinnamon.
  4. Makes 6 servings.
