There is a restaurant here, The Oyster Bar, that has been here since the late 70's. In the 80's we used to eat lunch there a lot (too much). There was a guy that worked there named Fred who made the pies. We loved his chocolate pie. He gave me the recipe and it is my favorite, to this day. I searched the recipes until I got tired but did not see one like it so I am sharing. If it is a duplicate - sorry. In my cookbook I call it Fred's Chocolate Pie. :-) Try it, you will like it.

prep time 10 Min
cook time
method No-Cook or Other
yield 8 (or 4 or 2 depending on how hungry you are)

Ingredients

  • 1 - graham cracker pie crust
  • 16 ounces cool whip
  • 4 ounces hershey's chocolate syrup
  • 1 box 5.9 ounce instant chocolate pudding
  • 1 dash vanilla extract
  • 1 can eagle brand condensed milk

How To Make thank me later chocolate pie

  • Step 1
Buy a pie crust and set it aside. :-) I usually buy the larger one.
  • Step 2
Mix the cool whip, chocolate syrup, chocolate pudding, condensed milk and vanilla extract together.
  • Step 3
Pour (or really scoop - it is pretty thick) into the pie crust. Smooth and refrigerate. You will taste it, you cannot resist. It will be a little grainy when you first mix it up. Once it sets in the refrigerator a little while, the graininess is gone. You can serve as is or add some cool whip on top. You can also drizzle some of the chocolate syrup on top. We just eat it as is and love it.
