My mother was a topnotch baker. This recipe is from her typed notes from many years ago. I have used it for years with always excellent results.

Ingredients

  • 3 c
    flour
  • 1 c
    shortening
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 large
    egg
  • 1 tsp
    vinegar
  • ·
    cold water as needed

How to Make MOTHER'S MAGIC PIE CRUST (SALLYE)

Step-by-Step

  1. Sift flour into bowl, cut in shortening with pastry blender or 2 knives.
  2. Place egg and vinegar in a 2 cup measuring cup. Add cold water to fill to half cup level.

    Whisk together until well blended.
  3. Add egg mixture to flour and mix well until dough forms a ball. ( use my hands to mix)

    If too dry, add more cold water a few drops at a time.

    This crust is always light and flaky.
