Ingredients

  • 1 - 15 ounces candied yams - drained & pureed
  • 1 - 15 ounces can - pumpkin - not pie mix
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons fresh grated ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg - optional
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 cup each - milk & heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 - eggs + 2 yolks
  • 1 - prebaked warm pie crust

How To Make candied yam & pumpkin pie - delicious!

  • Step 1
    In a food processor or blender - add the yams and puree. In a large sauce pan or dutch oven, add the pumpkin, ginger, pureed yams, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Cook for 20 minutes. Stirring constantly.
  • Step 2
    Remove from burner and cool to luke - warm. In a bowl whisk eggs, cream and vanilla.
  • Step 3
    Whisk in the egg mixture to the pumpkin mixture, until well blended.
  • Step 4
    Preheat oven to 400 degree F. Now, pour the yam - pumpkin filling into the prepared warm pre - baked pie crust and baked for 10 minutes. Reduce oven temp to 300 and bake until pie is set around the edges and center is just a little jiggly... about 30 - 35 minutes or longer depending on oven. If crust begins to get too dark, cover the crust with foil.
  • Step 5
    Cool for at least 4 hours and serve alone or with a big dollop of whipped cream.
