This came from a old cookbook I found. This time of year makes you want to bake with apples and these old recipes are wonderful and I love to share them. It is way too sad that they get lost and forgotten. Enjoy!

Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 cups apples, diced
- 2 - egg yolks
- 1 1/2 tablespoons water
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 - egg whites
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/4 cup nuts, chopped
How To Make auf-lauf

Step 1Butter casserole dish and sprinkle with brown sugar.

Step 2Fill about 1/3 full with peeled chopped apples. Bake 350 degrees until partially soft.

Step 3Beat egg yolks and sugar: then add water. Add sifted flour and baking powder. Add vanilla and nuts, mix.

Step 4Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.

Step 5Pour over apples and bake about 30 minutes at 325. Serve hot.
