This came from a old cookbook I found.
This time of year makes you want to bake with apples and these old recipes are wonderful and I love to share them.
It is way too sad that they get lost and forgotten.

  • 1 Tbsp
  • 1/4 c
    brown sugar
  • 2 c
    apples, diced
  • 2
    egg yolks
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 2
    egg whites
  • 1/2 c
  • 1/2 c
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 1/4 c
    nuts, chopped

How to Make Auf-Lauf


  1. Butter casserole dish and sprinkle with brown sugar.
  2. Fill about 1/3 full with peeled chopped apples.
    Bake 350 degrees until partially soft.
  3. Beat egg yolks and sugar: then add water. Add sifted flour and baking powder. Add vanilla and nuts, mix.
  4. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
  5. Pour over apples and bake about 30 minutes at 325.
    Serve hot.
