Ingredients
- FOR THE SYRUP
- 1 1/4 cups water
- 1 1/4 cups sugar
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- FOR THE BAKLAVA
- 1 package filo sheets
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup hazelnuts, chopped (or any nuts)
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
How To Make baklava
-
Step 1For the syrup: in a saucepan dissolve the sugar in the water over medium heat then add the lemon juice. Bring to boil then let it boil softly for 10 minutes. Set aside to cool while you make the baklava.
-
Step 2For the baklava: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brush a large rectangular oven pan with melted butter. Take half the filo sheets and lay them in the pan.
-
Step 3Spread the chopped nuts evenly on top, sprinkle with the cinnamon then add the rest of the filo sheets. Cut into diamonds or squares. Using a brush spread the melted butter over the top concentrating on the cut lines and around the rim so that it would penetrate through the layers.
-
Step 4Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes or till light golden brown. Take out of the oven and immediately pour the cool syrup all over.
