Ingredients
- - 8 thin slices day old bread
- - 4 tablespoons butter
- - 6 cups sliced apples
- - 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- - 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- - 1/4 teaspoon salt
- - 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- - 2 tablespoons light molasses
- - 1/2 cup water
- CINNAMON SUGAR
- - 2 tablespoons white sugar
- - 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
How To Make old fashioned apple dowdy

Step 1Trim crusts from bread slices; butter each slice .

Step 2Line 1-1/2 quart baking dish with bread, cutting to fit. Save enough bread for the top.

Step 3Fill dish with apple slices

Step 4Combine nutmeg, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, salt, brown sugar, molasses and water, pour over apples.

Step 5Top with remaining bread slices, buttered side up.

Step 6Cover, bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Remove cover - combined the 2 Tablespoons white sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. Sprinkle over top

Step 7Bake for 20 more minute uncovered or until golden brown. Serve hot with whipped cream.
