Another recipe from Family Circle Hometown Favorites (photo theirs) that looks so delicious you just want to gobble up the picture! I am making this as soon as I get some pears from my organic delivery company. Can't wait to try it! 06-13-14

Ingredients

  • 4 medium firm pears with stems
  • 1/4 cup dried cranberries or dried tart red cherries
  • 3 tablespoons chopped walnuts, toasted
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup

How To Make maple baked stuffed pears

  • Step 1
Cut a thin slice from the bottom of each pear so the pears stand up. Working through the bottom of each pear, use a melon baller to remove the core.
  • Step 2
In a small bowl combine cranberries (or cherries), walnuts, lemon juice, and sugar. Spoon cranberry mixture into the hollowed-out bottoms of pears. Stand pears in an ungreased 2-qt. square baking dish. Add the water to baking dish. Pour maple syrup over and around the pears. Sprinkle any remaining cranberry mixture into bottom of dish.
  • Step 3
Bake in a preheated 350º oven, covered, for 20 minutes. Uncover; bake for 20 to 25 minutes more or until pears are tender, basting occasionally with cooking liquid.
  • Step 4
To serve, spoon any remaining cooking liquid over pears. If desired, cut pears in half, topping with remaining filling from bottom of dish. Serve warm. A dollop of whipped cream is not a bad idea.
