An old time apple dessert from my old recipe files

Ingredients

  • - 1 20-oz can sliced apples
  • - 1/2 cup raisins
  • - 1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • - 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • - 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • - 1 cup whole wheat bread crumbs - about 3 or 4 slices- lighty toasted and crumbled
  • - 2 tablespoons butter
  • - 1/4 cup orange juice

How To Make apple raisin brown betty

  • Step 1
    Combine apples, raisins, and 1/4 cup of the brown sugar in a casserole dish. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg.
  • Step 2
    Combine the remaining 1/4 cup brown sugar with butter and bread crumbs. Working with fork or pastry blender, combine until mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle over apples in dish and drizzle with orange juice.
  • Step 3
    Bake in a 375 degrees oven for about 30 minutes. Serve warm or cold.
