A warm and simply delicious dessert that will make your house smell wonderful! This crisp is different (and better, in my opinion!) because there are no oats in the topping. The recipe also works great with pears, peaches, nectarines etc...

Ingredients

  • 8-10 large tart apples, peeled, cored & sliced (1/2 inch)
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice, fresh or bottled
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar, equally divided
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, equally divided
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted

How To Make cinnamon apple crisp

  • Step 1
    Lightly butter a 9"x13" glass or stoneware casserole and set aside.
  • Step 2
    In an extra large bowl, mix together 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and the lemon juice.
  • Step 3
    Add apple slices and gently toss to combine.
  • Step 4
    Place oven rack in middle position and preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Step 5
    In a medium bowl, combine flour, white sugar, salt and baking powder.
  • Step 6
    Add egg to flour mixture and combine with a fork or pastry blender until it resembles very coarse cornmeal with lumps the size of large peas. (This takes some patience.)
  • Step 7
    Pour apples into prepared dish and sprinkle evenly with flour mixture.
  • Step 8
    In a small bowl, mix together remaining 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.
  • Step 9
    Sprinkle evenly over the top of the flour mixture.
  • Step 10
    Drizzle evenly with melted butter.
  • Step 11
    Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
  • Step 12
    Remove from oven and cool for 15 minutes before serving.
  • Step 13
    Cover (no aluminum foil!) and refrigerate leftovers.
