Again another Christmas treat from my Nana...hope I'm not boring anybody with these, but she was a VERY special lady in my life. She always tried to make the Holidays and family get-togethers special. This is one of my favorites as she always made some with the nuts called for, but having a grandchild highly allergic she always made some special for me so I didn't feel left out.

2 2/3 c
all purpose flour
1/3 c
brown sugar, firmly packed (light or dark, your choice)
1/2 c
pure cane sugar
1/2 tsp
ground cloves
1/4 tsp
all spice
2 stick
unsalted butter (room temperature
1/2 tsp
1 Tbsp
freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 Tbsp
2 Tbsp
dry sherry
2 Tbsp
1 c
dried figs
1 c
candied pineapple
1 c
candied red cherries
1 c
candied green cherries
6 oz
chopped pecans (optional)

How to Make Stain Glass Cookies


  • 1In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter with the sugar, brown sugar, all spice, and cloves on medium for about three minutes. Add the egg and mix until incorporated
  • 2With the mixer still on low slowly add the flour and a 1/4 teaspoon of salt mix until incorporated, DO NOT over mix. Add the fruit, honey, sherry, and rum
  • 3Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  • 4Take the bowl out and give it a good stir to reincorporate any liquid. Using a tablespoon, spoon out a half a tablespoon of cookie dough, roll into a ball and place on an ungreased cookie sheet 1/2 inch apart
  • 5Bake at 350 for 15-18 minutes or until light golden brown
