Momma made lots of cookies, &, these were some of our favorites. When we came home from school, we always knew when she made these cookies by the smell of molasses when we walked up on the porch.

Ingredients
- 1 cup shortening
- 3 1/2 cups sifted all purpose flour
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1 cup molasses
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon cloves
How To Make old fashioned molasses cookies

Step 1Cream shortening & sugar together until light & fluffy.

Step 2Mix in molasses & buttermilk.

Step 3Add sifted dry ingredients. Chill dough.

Step 4Roll out to about 1/8 inch thickness & cut in desired shapes with a floured cookie cutter.

Step 5Bake on an greased baking sheet at 375º for 8 to 10 minutes. (Baking time may vary with size of cookies)
